SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM 2008

The Summer Learning Program is an intervention program for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder who are 5 to 8 years of age.  The program is designed to assist families to evaluate your child’s current skill levels, identify teaching goals and begin a tutoring program.

A tutor will work one-on-one with your child, one hour a week for six weeks on skill development in the area of self care, pre-academic/academic, play, and basic social skills. The tutor will work with your child in your home or our office - wherever you feel is the best learning environment for your child.

This is not a respite program and parents are expected to be present during the tutoring sessions.  Parents may observe all sessions if they desire, but are requested to observe the last session so they can be familiar with their child’s program and their progress.

We acknowledge this is a small amount of time, but we will leave you with a binder outlining your child’s individual tutoring program. It is our hope that this program will provide you with the information and tools you need to continue a home tutoring program if you choose to do so.

When: The tutoring program will run from July 7 to August 15 .  An initial meeting with the parent and your child will be booked prior to the start of the program in order to give our Autism Consultant and tutor  time to plan the program for your child and gather the material we will need.

Program Fees: A registration fee of $60.00 will be charged for this program in order to cover the costs of programming material.

At Autism Services we strive to meet the needs of the participants and their families by working to remove or to limit barriers to successful participation in our programs.   We strive to keep our program costs as low as we can by subsidizing the actual cost of the program with some core funding, grant monies and fundraised dollars. However, we recognize that families may need some extra financial support in order for their child to participate so we have created a fund that families can access or we can make alternative payment arrangements.

Please call Gail at 665-7013 ext.3 if you have any questions regarding placement, payment details, financial support or the program itself  prior to the registration night.
