Stressbusters

Duration:                  Once a week for eight weeks commencing March 2010

Location:                  Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program, 1319 Colony Street, Saskatoon

Registration:            $40

Stressbusters is a collaborative effort between Autism Services and the Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program.

We are looking for children with High Functioning Autism or Aspergers aged 9-13 years who present with stress or anxiety. They must be verbal and be able to read so that they can participate fully in activities. Children will develop their own incredible five-point scale and identify coping strategies to help them deal with stress. Activities include making mini-movies and taking photos. Parents attend a concurrent group where they help their child create his or her five-point scale, learn to identify their own stress, and learn coping strategies on how to deal with stress.

Sibling Support Group

I’m Important Too!  A Sibling Support Group

Duration:                  Once a week for five weeks commencing February 2010, 4.30-5.30pm

Location:                  TBA

Registration:            $40

I’m Important Too! is a collaborative effort between staff at the Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program and Autism Services.  It is for non-impacted siblings of a family member with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The siblings will learn about ASD, talk about how they feel about having a brother or sister on the spectrum, and have fun at the same time. The final group will bring parents and children together for one session to discuss next steps.
