| Individuals with autism, Asperger's
or other disorders involving problems with sensory integration, who have difficulty focusing or are easily
distracted, hyperactive, and lacking in concentration have been
found to respond positively to the additional weight and pressure
provided by a therapeutic vest. Children and youth with autism
have been found to benefit from consistent resistive or deep-touch
input in order to enhance their sensory awareness.
Use of this product can provide a calming effect on an
individual with sensory processing difficulties, and has been
shown to produce an increase in attention to task and decrease in
self-stimulatory behaviours.
Intervention with a therapeutic weighted vest can also prove
beneficial for various gross motor activities (jumping, running,
or aerobic activity) by increasing body awareness.
Weighted Vest should always be used under the supervision and
direction of a licensed Occupational Therapist. |
